Aeolian Islands ->
Stromboli

For the more
adventurous there is the internationally famed volcanic
island, Stromboli, where Ingrid Bergman found lasting love in
the film 'Stromboli'. From the abysses of the Tyrrhenian sea
rises, in a symphony of colour, the mass of Stromboli with the
bold slopes standing out vigorously against a sapphire sky.
On the Eastern slopes, clinging to a mantle of green, are the
typical small white houses which can be seen from above,
produce the sensation of a swarm of snow-white butterflies
perched on a vast emerald lawn.
The volcano is active. You can walk up the rim of the crater
in approx. 3 hours or take a leisurely boat trip round the
island at night to watch the firework display which can often
be spectacular. |
