About the Island of Panarea
The island, the small islands (Basiluzzo, Dattilo and Lisca Bianca) and the islets (Bottaro, Lisca nera, Panarelli and Le Formiche) make Panarea one of the most scenic and enchanting places. Typical Aeolian white houses perched around the churches next to lavic rock or hidden amongst century-old olive trees offer the most beautiful contrasts of colour. There are some small hotels, trattorias and cafes but little to mar a summers day idyll.
Very fashionable with the "jet-set" in the summer months, it has clear blue waters surrounding a rocky coastline and is much favoured by scuba divers and snorkellers. With the absence of cars and with its rich and colourful sub-tropical vegetation, Panarea is a prime example of how life can still be lived at nature's pace.
